The Summer will soon be here and some people are already heading abroad on holiday.  One of the biggest questions as we jet off is just how expensive is it when using Vodafone abroad?

 

Different Roaming Options

How you use your mobile device abroad matters from a cost perspective.  Some people may find it useful to have a plan which includes roaming whilst others would prefer to just pay for what they use – which is best will often depend on where you are visiting, how long for, and how often you use it, so hopefully this information can help you choose.

 

Vodafone Global Roaming

Vodafone offer some Global Roaming plans where you can free-roam in 83 worldwide destinations (known as Zones A, B and C).  The 83 countries included are listed in the below section under Zone A, B and C.

 

Roaming Charges

If you are NOT on a Global Roaming plan, you would pay the following rates whilst roaming.

 

Zone A : In Zone A you can roam-free on all plans, meaning you can use your home plan in 4 Zone A destinations which are:

1. Republic Of Ireland
2. Isle Of Man
3. Iceland
4. Norway

 

 

Zone B:  You can use your home plan for a charge of £2.42 per day in 47 European destinations, or take advantage of one of the new roaming passes which cost £12 for 8 days roaming OR £17 for 15 days roaming.  The Zone B countries are as follows:

Zones C & D:  Travelling further afield? Pay just £7.39 per day to use your home plan of data, minutes and texts in 105 additional roam-further destinations and you’ll be charged only on the days you use your phone. Roaming on all Unlimited data plans is capped at 25GB per month in inclusive roaming and is designed for temporary, occasional periods abroad. If you exceed the 25GB allowance you will be charged £3.37 Per 1GB Per Day.

Roaming Passes

To activate roaming passes as described above, just text 8DAYEUROPE or 15DAYEUROPE to 40506 free from your Vodafone mobile. These passes do not include MMS picture messages, premium calls or texts. If you’re on Pay As You Go, a different set of roaming passes are available.

 

Maritime Roaming

Maritime roaming is something to be aware of if on a cruise, or if part of your journey is a sea crossing.  If using your mobile phone near the coastline you will be using the mobile network.  However when further out to sea this usage is excluded from your Vodafone Global Roaming services, with charges starting at £2.40 per minute to make calls, £1.80 per minute to receive calls, 60p per text. Picture messaging and using data is not available.

Notifications on arrival

One part of the roaming process is that when you land in a different country, Vodafone send you text alerts to warn you of possible higher rates, so if you have forgotten about the costs you can still purchase any roaming passes required.

 

Vodafone Spend Manager

As part of our Customer Care Charter we offer all customers the option of placing a Vodafone Spend Manager of their account.  This caps out-of-bundle charges including global roaming fee’s so do consider all of your roaming options before setting any limit.
